Our stay at Chameleon was great. The venue was green and amazing and alive, with lots of space.. The facilitators were on point and full Ayobaliciousness. They had a very positive and had a very warm vibe. I felt like we were all part of one big happy family. The food was excellent. On the 12th January 2011 most of the pupils of Brescia House started school for their first day of the new school year, but the grade eights of 2011 embarked on a new adventure… Camp Chameleon. The bus was filled with many new faces that we all had the chance to meet. We got chatting for the 1½ hour journey to our new home for the next 2 nights. As we got there we were immediately introduced to the entertaining counsellors and got settled in our cabins. We were split into groups and had to give our group a name and make a flag and then we were off to the activities. That afternoon we were served our first meal and, boy oh boy, was it delicious! I must say when you have had a full day‘s activities there is nothing to beat a fantastic home-cooked meal! That night we played an interesting game where the teachers and counselors were hiding somewhere around camp and we had to go and find them. Each person was worth a certain number of points and we had to get as many points as we could. Ten o‘clock was lights out and as you can imagine we all stayed wide awake talking about the day‘s experiences and what to expect the next day… We were woken up by the counsellor opening the door and letting the sunshine in, at six o‘clock. The second day was filled with more remarkable activities such as raft building, mud fights, swimming and many more! The meals were even tastier than the ones the day before and the day was filled with many laughs and fun times. That night we went on an interesting night hike through the bush, where we saw wildebeest and were fascinated by a firefly. Just before bed we had a bonfire, toasted marshmallows and expressed our talents with the war cry competition. After a well deserved sleep, on the last day we went deep into the bush for orienteering. A few of the matrics arrived to give us a hand as we were only given a map, a compass and there were no roads or paths, just thick grass and trees. We all managed - it may have taken a while but we all found our way back safely. It then came to the time we had all been dreading, which was saying goodbye. We had some memorable. war cries just as we got on the bus for the trip home. We were all upset camp was over, but excited to get back to school once the weekend was over. Every year we leave camp thinking ―next year‘s camp could never top this‖ but after THIS year‘s camp I‘m sure we can all agree that Camp Chameleon takes the cake!
