Intermediate phase (Grades 7-9)

The Intermediate phase of the YAP program consists of processes and or strategies to help learners to define and internalize concepts of emotional intelligence, understanding of the self and interaction with others in a constructive environment.

We present them with challenges and learning experience to aid them in conceptualising and managing the effect of intra and interpersonal interactions in a direct and responsive world. This enables them to distinguish and differentiate between different emotional and physical inputs and outputs. This capacity allows them to interact constructively within their immediate environment.

This framework provides the learner with the foundational skills necessary for application during the FET phase. He or she will then be presented with opportunities to apply acquired skills in different situations and in their life after school.

Grade 7: Solid Ground

  • Key focus: Teaching intrapersonal skills on both an emotional and cognitive level. Theoretical concepts are illustrated during activities to enhance and challenge the learners with these concepts.
  • Activities are structured to become more formal educational tools.
  • Debriefing and reviewing of the activities, highlights learned skills
  • The theme of the camp is focussed on the utilisation of specific experiential activities to simulate theoretical outcomes, presenting learners with the opportunity to engage, discuss links to the theory.
  • Outcomes: Significant understanding and application of intra personal skills

Grade 8: Changing Tribes Program

  • Key focus: Fast track and familiarise children with their new environment in the high school. Teaching intrapersonal skills on both emotional and cognitive level to the children. Theoretical concepts are illustrated during activities to enhance and challenge the learners with these concepts if they did not previously attend a school that did not apply the YAP process.
  • We facilitate the capacity to function more confidently with new friends and building confidence within the new environment. To enable them to relate external stimuli to theoretical concepts of intra and interpersonal development
  • The theme of the camp is but not limited to the sequenced use of applicable ice breaker, experiential and group initiative activities focussing on outcomes.
  • Outcomes: Facilitate group bonding, making new friends, understanding group formation etc.

Grade 9: Knowing Me, Knowing You

  • Key focus: Focus on the understanding of concepts dealing with interpersonal relationships and expose participants to a deeper level of group interaction.
  • Facilitate the capacity to confidently function independently in peer, parent and child relationships. Develop confidence and ability to react with mature behaviour in difficult situations to manage conflict and debate issues (Constructive discontent).
  • The theme of the camp is but not limited the sequenced use of applicable ice breaker, experiential and group initiative activities focussing on outcomes.
  • Outcomes: Facilitate understanding of the applications of intra and inter personal skills
